A combative Malawi forced New Zealand to fight right to the final whistle for a flattering 57-49 win in their second qualification round match at the Netball World Cup in Sydney.
The win means New Zealand remains the only unbeaten team after beating defending champions Australia in pool play and world number four Jamaica on Tuesday.
Malawi’s effort was built around an outstanding defensive effort led by goal defence Caroline Mtukule and keeper Towera Vinkhumbo.
